On the inner leader journey, we truly begin to see with new “eyes” and discover many deeper truths.
And the truth is, almost everything is upside down and not what we think it is. So much of the advice that’s presented on social media is actually keeping us trapped in the very conditions we’re seeking to address.
Let’s take distractions as an example. We think we’re victims of distraction and a noisy world. But what if we’re not?
Every notification we allow, every back-to-back meeting we schedule, every podcast we queue up. These are choices we’re making.
Why would anyone choose to be distracted? Because distraction is safe. It’s comfortable. It’s familiar.
Quiet is dangerous. We might have to face who we truly are, what we’re doing, where we’re going.
Our egos resist change. And this is the root cause of our dysfunction and why we stay stuck.
So we build elaborate systems of interruption. We call it “staying connected” or “being productive.” But really, we’re building a fortress against silence.
The world isn’t too noisy. We made it that way. And we can unmake it.
The path forward isn’t through another productivity system or app. Instead, it begins with a simple but profound choices: to embrace moments of stillness, to face what we’ve been running from, and to create a different way of being.
The balance and peace we’re seeking is already here. We’ve just been too busy designing distractions to notice.
Distraction isn’t an external problem to be solved with tools and techniques, but rather an internal choice we’re making that requires awareness and courage to address.
What truths are waiting for you in the quiet spaces you’ve been avoiding?
